We have been successful not only in the operational area, but also in terms of our environmental impact: In 2024, we saved a total of 29,569 kg CO2e, 556,146 liters of water and 41,159 kg of waste - a significant reduction compared to single-use packaging. This was confirmed by our ISO 14040/14044-compliant life cycle assessment from 2023, which was audited by Bureau Veritas and is based on the assumption that each packaging is reused 50 times.
and valuable experience for EINFACH MEHRWEG. We have successfully replaced 914,210 single-use packaging for To-G food and beverages - that's 2.1 million since the launch of EINFACH MEHRWEG in 2023. Orders for our bestseller, the large tray, have increased by 9.89% compared to the previous year and some of our containers have already had up to 7 rotations. It shows that our system works and is becoming increasingly popular.
As a company, it is particularly important to us to create transparency. We have therefore published our first impact report, in which our figures were audited by an external, verified office. We provide insights into the ecological impact of EINFACH MEHRWEG and the ESG issues at sykell. This strengthens the trust of our customers and partners in the reliability and functionality of our system.
We have also been honored with three prestigious awards: the German Packaging Award, the Golden German Packaging Award and the German Sustainability Award for Products. These awards are not only a confirmation of our work, but also an incentive to continue strengthening circular solutions. We are still incredibly proud of these recognitions.
Another milestone was our presence at several trade fairs, such as FachPack and the Sustainable Packaging Summit, as well as our participation in 14 other talks in which we discussed sustainable packaging solutions and the logistics behind reusable systems. Our joint presentation with REWE at the 3rd Reusable Packaging Conference in Berlin, which was organized by Deutsche Umwelthilfe, deserves special mention.
Despite these successes, there were also declines. The total number of orders fell by 24% from 2023 to 2024, which is mainly due to the high number of initial orders. We see these fluctuations as a learning process and are continuously working to further optimize our system.
One challenge is the average circulation time of an EINFACH MEHRWEG packaging. For the system to continue to function effectively, it is crucial that the containers are returned regularly, as the ecological benefits of reusable packaging are maximized the faster the containers are recycled for the next use. Reusable packaging thrives on participation and this is the only way to keep the cycle intact.
We are optimistic about the coming year and look forward to getting even more people excited about sustainability and reusable packaging.
